My Plans for ANA if Elected as ANA General Secretary

MY PLANS FOR ANA IF ELECTED AS ANA GENERAL SECRETARY

The following are the practical steps which I desire to implement if elected as the General Secretary of ANA:

HYBRID ANA SECRETARIAT:

It is my desire to establish a hybrid ANA Secretariat which will combine both the physical and online activities.

STATE-BASED BLOG PROJECT:

Under the Blog per state initiative, every state chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors will have its own sub-website linked to the National Association's website. The State Secretary and the Publicity Secretary of each Chapter will serve as administrators for their respective sites. The websites will serve as archives, documenting the events and activities of the individual chapters.

ANA WEBSITE UPGRADE:

The ANA website will be upgraded. The ANA Secretariat under my supervision will encourage promotion and sales of works by ANA members. In Addition, the platform will feature past ANA magazines, academic papers, Convention reports, pictures from past Conventions, a database of members, and relevant association-related documentaries.

ENHANCED ASSOCIATION SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS:

The association's social media presence will be improved tremendously. I will ensure that ANA's platforms on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube are consistently updated. Furthermore, we will explore new platforms such as Threads and others to expand our online presence.

BLOG IMPROVEMENT:

The association's existing blogs will undergo enhancements and will be seamlessly integrated with the official website of the association.

This newsletter will provide comprehensive coverage of the activities and events organized by ANA's state chapters such as monthly interviews, updates on members' latest book releases, literary works including poetry, prose, and essays, as well as information about various literary opportunities.

WEEKLY ENGAGEMENTS:

Under my supervision as ANA Chief Scribe, I will ensure that ANA's activities are organized on a weekly basis. These activities will include features such as Author of the Week, Book of the Week, Interview of the Week etc. This consistent engagement will ensure that the Association remains active and dynamic, even at the state level.

ANA ATTENDANCE RECORD:

As the General Secretary of ANA, all state chapters will be encouraged to maintain both digital and paper attendance registers for their monthly meetings. The registers will meticulously record members' attendance, indicating the frequency of their participation in chapter’s meetings. This initiative will not only track the members' engagement but also inform the national headquarters of ANA about the level of activity within each chapter.

ELECTRONIC MEMBER DATABASE:

Utilizing my expertise in database management, I will establish a sophisticated electronic database for ANA members. This database will be updated monthly and will assign unique membership numbers to each association’s member. Members can use these numbers to verify their membership status, access their financial records, and confirm their commitment to the association.

AWARDS, REWARDS, AND RECOGNITION:

Pro-active ANA Chapters will be acknowledged, rewarded, and honoured based on their achievements and contributions. We will introduce awards such as Chapter of the Year, Chairman of the Year, and Dedicated Member of the Year, among others. This initiative aims to inspire others to actively participate and demonstrate dedication to ANA's activities within their respective chapters.

ARCHIVES INITIATIVE:

If elected, I will establish an archive that will comprehensively document ANA's history, achievements, and significant contributions to the literary world.

In my role as the General Secretary of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), I am dedicated to revolutionizing our operations through cutting-edge technology. I am committed to developing a state-of-the-art mobile application that will streamline and enhance the day-to-day functioning of our association. Through this innovative app, our valued members will have the convenience of accessing crucial information and updates instantaneously.

With the app, members will have the ability to seamlessly engage with ANA's activities, ensuring efficient communication and collaboration within our literary community. One of the app's key features will be the accessibility of monthly and annual reports, as well as financial statements, providing transparency and accountability to our members. This digital platform will not only modernize our association but also foster a stronger sense of unity and information-sharing among our esteemed members. As we embrace the future of technology, ANA will continue to thrive as a hub of literary excellence and collaboration in Nigeria.

The chapbook series will be exclusively dedicated to young writers affiliated to ANA.

We will utilize the e-mail addresses collected through the Attendance Lists from the chapters to create a bulk mailing system. This listserve will enable members to receive up-to-date information regarding the association's activities and news.

ANA REVIEW ENHANCEMENT:

I intend to revamp the ANA Review by focusing on improving its quality, editorial standards, and overall branding. My  plan also include transforming the Review into a multimedia platform by incorporating artworks and illustrations, enriching the reading experience for our audience.

ESTABLISHMENT OF BOOK CLUBS:

If elected as the man in-charge of the ANA secretariat, I will encourage ANA State chapters to establish book clubs within their respective areas in selected schools. This initiative aims to foster a culture of reading across the country.

PARTNERSHIPS WITH GLOBAL LITERARY ORGANIZATIONS:

I have established strong connections with international literary organizations such as the International Human Rights Art Movement (IHRAM) and the International Women Writing Guild (IWWG), among others. Many ANA members have already benefited from these associations. My plan is to formalize collaborations between ANA and these organizations to enhance the growth and development of our members.

MENTORSHIP INITIATIVES:

My aim to initiate mentorship programmes where experienced authors mentor and guide aspiring writers in their literary pursuits.

FEEDBACK SYSTEM:

Create a feedback mechanism to grasp the needs and concerns of our members, ensuring their voices are acknowledged and heard.

RUNNING THE ENGINE ROOM OF THE ASSOCIATION EFFECTIVELY AND EFFICIENTLY

A successful executive led by a visionary president needs an engine room that will drive all programmes and projects effectively and efficiently. That engine room in ANA is the secretariat manned by an experienced, knowledgeable and hardworking General Secretary. This critical job cannot be left to someone who does not have an institutional memory nor is familiar with the huge human and intellectual resources of the Association. It is not a place to come and start learning the ropes. I promise to deliver on all my promises. I have in my years in ANA been known for my excellent service delivery. If elected as  General Secretary in ANA, I will continue in the best traditions of past General Secretaries such as kole Omotoso, Femi Osofisan, Odia Ofeimun, Nnimmo Bassey, Ada Ugah,Wale Okediran, Nduka Otiono, Denja Abdullahi, Hyacinth Obunseh and others.
